Granting of Permission for Your Police Check

Many thanks for agreeing to be a volunteer with the Mental Health Forum. The final stage of the process is a police check and we need your permission to conduct one.

As part of the process of doing the police check (in the UK they are called Disclosure and Baring Service (DBS) Checks) we need to draw your attention to the following four policies or pieces of information.

In essence they say that as an organisation we are committed to equality within our organisation, that we will keep your information secure and that it won’t be shared with anyone unless we are required to by law. As we are working with vulnerable people for some positions we need to keep copies of your police (DBS) checks for safeguarding purposes during the time that you are working with us.

Disclosure of Criminal Background: Do you have any criminal prosecutions pending (excluding minor motoring offences e.g. speeding or parking)? Have you ever been convicted of any criminal offences which are not yet spent under The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 or The Rehabilitation of Offenders(NI) Order 1978 or an equivalent for your country? Some of our volunteer roles will require the satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service Check or a Basic Disclosure Check from Disclosure Scotland (you don’t have to be from Scotland to do this) or if you are out of the UK an overseas equivalent. If the position you are taking on requires such a check we will contact you with the details of how these checks will be done at no cost to yourself.
